The aim of the poverty research unit at SPDC is to further develop an existing and innovative new areas of research on poverty issues. The unit’s research encompasses all aspects of poverty - its definition, measurement and consequences with particular emphasis on Pakistan. The unit also covers various aspects of social deprivation, regional inequalities and disparities in terms of social and economic development and income distribution. In addition, the Unit evaluates public sector initiatives towards social sector development and poverty alleviation. It also assists governments, international organizations, and NGOs in formulating policies and programs for poverty reduction and social development
