The ISPM Unit is primarily responsible for updating, extending, modifying and running the Integrated Social Planning Model for Pakistan maintained by the Social Policy and Development Centre. It has recently completed updating the model estimates, using data until 2003. Besides Poverty and Gender modules are the latest additions to the expanding model. The ISPM model is unique in many respects. It traces the effects of macro-economic policy instruments on social indicators of Pakistan via its impact on public finances. Feedback effects on economic growth are captured via improvement in social indicators. The model has gained early popularity, and is proposed to be replicated in Africa and parts of South-East Asia.
In the day to day policy analysis work of the centre, the ISPM unit contributes by analyzing the impact of various macro policy actions by the government through the model, and disseminates its analysis through the popular media. |
