Gender Unit is one of the emerging units which devoted to the promotion of gender equity by raising the issue of mainstreaming gender perspective in policies and development plans of the country. This can be achieved by integrating the gender perspective in SPDC’s own research, and by supporting and strengthening the institutional capacity of the government, NGOs and other organizations for gender mainstreaming. Gender unit focuses on compilation of sex segregated data, provide advisory and technical assistance to government to adopt gender responsive budget at national, provincial and district levels. The unit is responsible to build on core competencies of SPDC, ensure inclusion of gender view point in research conducted by all the Units (Public Finance, Macro Economic Modeling, Governance and Poverty Units) at the Center through gender segregated information, complement/build on work done by other research institutions, academic institutions and NGOs.
The main activities of the unit are: collection and compilation of sex segregated data and capacity building of concerned groups in this respect. Second one is conduct researches, awareness raising sessions and impart trainings on Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) for provision of expertise in Pakistan. Finally establishment of strong networking relationships in order to mutually share information on gender issues and disseminate the collected information to potential partners.
