| The Information System Unit is responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of SPDC’s computing facilities. Capabilities of the Unit include in-house software development to support SPDC’s activities in economic modeling and in the development of the social sector database, as well as website development. The available hardware equipment includes 40 desk-top personal computers ranging from 500MHz to 3.2GHz Pentium IV connected through a network server with intranet service. In addition, A central computer room provides some workstations, off-line storage for data backups, and two network printers for high-speed printing. Two high-speed DSL internet connections and a color printer and scanner are also available. Available pre-packaged software includes standard operating system and word-processing software as well as statistical software for managing and analyzing data, including E-Views, SPSS, Fox-Pro, Visual Fox-Pro, and Quatro-Pro. The Unit also provides maintenance support to the technical and administrative staff including support for the Library and for Accounts (Oracle). |
