Networking among Pakistani, Canadian, regional and international organizations is undertaken to broaden the scope and awareness of SPDC; to learn from others involved in social and human development; to share its experiences with them and incorporate their experiences into its work.
Linkages - and networks have been established with national and international agencies in the fields of research, advocacy and training. Efforts are being made to enhance communications and collaboration among researchers, and research organizations, and to have SPDC recognized as a repository/nodal point for knowledge of social development. Explicit research-based policy recommendations by SPDC and dissemination activities have contributed, at least in part, to devolution of responsibility to lower tiers of government which is expected to result in the reduction of development and delivery costs and in a more efficient and effective use of resources; change in the government's strategy of social development from expansion in availability to consolidation and more efficient use of resources through institutional reforms in service delivery; financing of social sector development by donor/lending agencies changed from a project basis to a programme basis; enunciation and implementation of a poverty reduction strategy; improvements in data collection through the integration of major surveys; greater government openness to partnerships with civil society to achieve community participation in service planning, management and delivery and to ensure a more efficient and effective utilization of resources. The Centre has also expanded the programme of offering internships to students from Pakistani universities to providing non-financial support to research scholars and students by allowing them use of its facilities.
In the process of carrying out research, links were established with over a dozen institutions and the network is still expanding.
